The Ombudsman, Bakary K. Sanyang, with the director of human rights, Landing Bondi, attended the International Ombudsman Conference on the theme “The Future of Human Rights in the 21st Century” held in Ankara, Turkey.
Ombudsman Sanyang presented a paper at the conference on the topic: The role of Ombudsmen in the promotion and protection of human rights in the 21st century The Gambia experience.
It is well established that the role of Ombudsmen in the fight against administrative injustice or the promotion of good administration is inextricably linked to the promotion and protection of human rights.
Ombudsman Sanyang’s presentation was premised on this linkage and what The Gambia Ombudsman has done on that score, while drawing lessons from it for the future of human rights.
