Ombudsman launched its CRR office

The Office of the Ombudsman launched its regional office in the Central River Region on 1 July 2026. It
was officially launched by the governor of the region Hon. Ousman Bah at a ceremony held in
Janjanbureh where the office is located.
The ceremony was graced by the Ombudsman Bakary K. Sanyang who also delivered a statement. He
outlined the Ombudsman’s role and function as a grievance resolution mechanism. He also explained
the office’s asset declaration mandate and its involvement in election monitoring and visiting of prisons
and other places of detention. He thanked Governor Ousman Bah for being supportive of the office’s
decentralization programme.
The governor in his launching statement recognized the important role of the Ombudsman in dispensing
administrative justice for all as a way of promoting good governance. He commended the staff of the
office for their hard work and professionalism. He pledged his continuous support to the office and
revealed plans to include the office staff in TAC outreach activities to raise awareness of the existence of
the office in the region and its mandate.
The launching ceremony was attended by TAC members representing various public institutions, chiefs,
alkalos, lady councilors, youth leaders, the media, staff of the Office of the Ombudsman from the region
and senior staff members from the head office.
